Although most of your interaction with my law firm will be through the telephone and email, it is helpful when your Social Security lawyer works no more than 5 or 10  minutes from where you live.  This is especially true when you meet with me for your pre-hearing conference. 

Hearing Delays and the Role of Your Lawyer

With the current backlog, there is a good chance that your hearing will not be scheduled less than 18 months to 2 years from the date you apply for benefits.  During that time my paralegal staff - Judy Bledsoe or Cameron Connah - will regularly update your file, obtain functional capacity forms from your doctors and prepare current medication and employment history forms for the administrative law judge.

Some judges also require that we complete a pre-hearing checklist setting out the issues to be addressed at the hearing.  In many of the cases I try I prepare and submit a pre-hearing brief that sets out your employment history, your medical problems and presents an argument as to why you should be approved.

 

Your Pre-Hearing Conference

If you live in Dunwoody, I will recommend that we schedule a pre-hearing conference with you at my office.  During that pre-hearing conference, I will explain to you the arguments that I plan to use in presenting your case, and we will practice the questions that you are likely to get from the judge in your case.  As I have appeared before all of the judges in the local hearing offices, and most of the judges from the national video hearing center, I will be able to offer you insight as to what to expect from the judge in your case.

Although Dunwoody is closer to the North Atlanta hearing office, there is a good chance that your case will be heard by a judge in the downtown Atlanta ODAR (Office of Disability and Review) or by an out-of-state judge in a video hearing held at the Marietta Social Security office on Franklin Road.  There is a North Atlanta ODAR located on Clairmont Road, but currently that office is undergoing a number of administrative changes and many of the files previously there have been sent either downtown or to the video hearing center in Falls Church, Virginia.

Driving Directions from Dunwoody, Georgia:

Take 400 South to 285 East.  Take 285 East to Exit 30-(North Peachtree, North Shallowford, Chamblee-Tucker exit).  Go to the top of the exit ramp and take a left onto Chamblee Dunwoody Road. 

Go straight for about 1 1/2 miles.  You will see the Georgetown Kroger center on your left.  You will pass a SunTrust Bank and a Bank of America.  Look for the traffic light at the intersection of Chamblee Dunwoody and N. Shallowford.  Go thru this traffic light, then take the second left into our office complex - Independence Square.  The buildings at Independence Square are two story red brick office condominiums.

From Mt. Vernon and Chamblee Dunwoody intersection.  Take Chamblee Dunwoody east towards the old Shallowford Hospital.  At the intersection of Chamblee Dunwoody, Peeler and Shallowford, take a left onto Peeler, then take the 2nd private road into Independence Square.
